Bespoke Overcoat - Page 7

With this one, the tailor already had a DB suit pattern for me. He asked (via email) how long I wanted it. I said "mid calf." He asked me to put on one of his coats and measure down from the base of the collar to mid calf. I did that (with help) and sent him the measurement.

At the first fitting, he thought the coat was much too long. I agreed. I think at that point it might have been literally mid-calf, the exact halfway point. I don't know how many inches he brought it up. It's still well past the knee, I would estimate 6".

It's difficult to find fault with this very well-executed overcoat.

The above comment on length and 'even Brooks Brothers' and whatnot is simply preposterous.

RSS, is this what you're referring to?

Someone's gotta ask, so I will: Manton, what did the coat cost?

Less than A&S would have charged, though not a whole lot less.

Somewhat less than a two piece suit. They require more cloth but less tailoring.
Mine cost me the same as a two piece suit
post #102 of 233
I would assume it all depends on the price of the fabric as well.
For me the price was a bit more than a suit, but as patrickB mentions this is probably due to the fabric.

I just had a fitting for a bespoke camel hair polo coat, same tailor. Should take delviery later this fall. Will post pics.

Your first bespoke coat, Manton? (Or did I miss one... or two?)
