Huh.

Count me out of ever buying Wolverine. I'll stick with the other reputable North American makers: Chippewa, Red Wing, White's, Wesco, Danner, Dayton, Viberg, etc. etc. etc.

I sno-sealed an old pair of Knapp Lineman's boots I inherited from my father, and they withstood ridiculous amounts of water.

Be careful about over-doing waterproofing your boots, too.

How is it bad if you over do the waterproofing?

i almost purchased a pair ahead of this fall/winter and I'm glad I didn't.

I can't see these being a good choice anywhere where there can be rain/snow daily like here in the northeast.

I have a pair of redwing GT's that have treated me well through two winters in Boston/NYC and they (still) feel indestructible.
i'd treat the 1000 miles likely the same way i'd treat a pair of alden indys. carefully.

I just looked at pictures of the boots and I'm sorry you agree you shouldn't be wearing them in snow or rain. If you do, expect damage regardless of waterproofing.

Ok, I emailed her some of the posts here regarding applying waterproofing materials and got nowhere - same story - not meant to be worn in the rain. Ok, awaiting her response after she/they read some of the threads here. A tad frustrating, because she obviously isn't familiar enough with the boots to make an intelligent assessment about the boot's moisture resistence.

The Wolverine rep at Redeem gave me a similar story -- the boots are meant to be worn out to dinner when it's nice outside, not hiking in a rainstorm.

Well, snow would be one thing I woould never wear them in, but rain after waterproofing? Again this wouldn't be my first choice in a downpour, but after Karl from Crane's very successful experience with waterproofing, and my doing the same procedure, I thought that it would at least survive without getting totally soaked through. I mean Karl put them through hell and back and water didn't get through.
I am not looking to use these boots for any type of rough stuff andf believe that you wear the right boots or shoes for the right/different activities, but I was a bit dissapointed.
Still waiting for the rep from Wolverine to get back to me to see what's what.

If you're out in the rain, it's gotta be something like a Rockport XCS, Gore-Tex type boot. I have a few pairs of sem-dressy Gore-Tex lined boots for really wet condition/winter salt and slush. The fancy leather soled/commando topy boots and shoes stay inside till the salt and snow go away.

Of course, leather thickness might play a part as well - Trickers Stow, for example, seems to be a country-style, out in the wet grass type boot. Based on pics, the leather and sole seem a lot thicker. Maybe that provides a better barrier to the weather.

You might want to take your Wolverines to a shoe repair place and get a commando or smooth rubber topy applied. If you stop the leather sole from absorbing the ground wet, things might stay drier longer.
