Being the quintessential WASP from Connecticut, "howdy" is definitely not a very common form of greeting, but it's certainly fun for mixing it up a bit and keeping it light.

Another favorite, especially ever since South Park's Mr. Hanky the Christmas Poo, is "Hydee-ho!"

Here in Australia, 'gday' is the equivalent to howdy.
