Might be hard to find artists or albums that are all consistently clean/uplifting while still being good. You might have to piecemeal a playlist. Here's a decent addition. Kinda nerdy video game rap but a solid song for sure:

The majority of 3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul. I'd also check out their other albums.

Shame such a clearly skilled rapper is busy making this whiny music. Thats why rap is still best left to ghetto folk, I can't tolerate all this emo shit.

shrug, I can relate more to his "whiny music" than Ricky Rozay grunting or Pusha T's tales of dope slanging.

It's interesting because he seems to be up and down with his emotional lyrics. Cul-de-sac is like 50% wit and braggadocio, 50% woe-is-me sappy crap about how hard he works and gets no respect, etc. On EP, and the one-off songs that surrounded its release like Longest Text Message and AOTL, he was starting to get some recognition so he was far more about great hooks and witty lyrics (see Freaks and Geeks for a prime example). I was hoping that was a sign of things to come.

Unfortunately it seems like he is in a downswing again. I'm not sure if his label is trying to brand him for the emo kids or what, but in EP it seemed he was proud of changing from being a sap to living the high life. Now I have to hear about him getting made fun of all over again. Perhaps Camp is a devolution because many people aren't aware of the progress and catharsis in his older stuff? I can't be sure. Either way the schtick will only get more tired the more I have to suffer through it.

i gave culdesac a good listen

i'd say like 30% of the songs were skipped. i just can't stand the dude's singing. whiny puts it best. otherwise lots of witty lyrics. also his production kinda sucks.

I thought it was great someone had the audacity (Or gall. JapanAlex, right?) to stand up to popular conception. I have seen many posters here and elsewhere exalt Illmatic to being THE greatest hip hop album of all time and then not have the rationale to even explain why they think that, let alone argue its placement in hip hop canon.

JapanAlex arguing about Illmatic wasn't the problem, just he would try to fight too many battles at once. Not only did he not like the Nas album, he didn't like Pac, he felt MIA was the best rap album of all time, etc. etc. It was hard to take his advice on mainstream hiphop because he was the furthest thing from mainstream hip hop.

And on a side note, he said gall, not gal (Bold, impudent behavior: "the gall to demand a fee". Thank you Google dicitionary). JapanAlex is a man, lol. Or at least to my knowledge nest.gif.
