not so nerdy/underground selection:
elzhi + slum village (RIP dilla), lords of the underground, reks, blu, talib, mos, obviously blackstar, pharoahe monch, souls of mischief, heiroglyphics, dat nigga del the funkee homosapien, one be lo + binary star, evidence + dilated peoples, people under the stairs, the pharcyde, common, brother ali and so on..

I mostly stopped listening to this stuff when I graduated high school but I Still fuck with El-P a bit. Also the Weathermen. Cage and Yak Ballz at this tiny bar in DC is one of the better live shows I've been to.

Me and my cadre of fat Black fellows are just in from holding our over night vigil.
I must mention, I Love My Bitches is indeed the best song out right.

Something about this song takes me back to the hip hop I listened to way back when... Blackalicious, De La Soul, ATCQ, etc.

2 Chainz doesn't do much for me lyrically, but there's some damn fine production on his new tape. Particularly fond of this, which samples Gladys Knight's "License to Kill":

I have listened to Phonte and 9th Wonder. Both albums/mix tapes are ok. Nothing special.

+1. The Phonte joint had some songs I really, really liked, but both albums were ok overall.

Help me understand the appeal of 2 Chainz. It's well known thatg he doesn't write anything, right? in the past successful non-writing rappers have either been:

Chicks
Kids
Producers
Executives
Celebrities

How hoes a regular rapper get a pass?

Eazy-E didn't write his own lyrics. Dr. Dre doesn't write his own lyrics.
