Pretty crap job. The boots were half shot. This is why RMW has dispensed with authorised repairers recently (including Bryces in Sydney) and asked for everything to go back to the factory for recrafting.

When did that happen? There's an RM Williams authorised shop near me.

Half the reason I bought them.

Recently according to my shoe guy. He told me they have withdrawn the 'authorised' repair shops in favour of recrafting in the factory ie send them back to us. When you see the above job you will see why.

Fair enough. Shame though - for a lot of people sending your shoes away for a few months just isn't practical.

PoP - how are your stormwelt henleys going?

I don't own any henleys, I have a pair of craftsmen though that were recently recrafted by an authorised repairer. Didn't do a bad job.

Thought you were getting a pair of henleys with a stormwelt sole made up?

You were close Oli - here are the boots I recently ordered, MTO chestnut camel leather with a storm welt.

I need to get a pair re-soled and I'm in Philadelphia. Do I need to send them back to RM or should I just go to a local cobbler?

Dark tan R.M. Williams Craftsman worn by actor Tony Hamilton in the 1988-90 Mission:Impossible television series.

For those of us who happen to live in Adelaide (home of RM Williams), I figured I should remind you that the annual R.M. Williams 10 day factory sale starts next week. Personally, I plan on taking shameless advantage of living here to grab a couple of pairs of boots at least, maybe some other stuff, I'll have to peruse the catalogue... Depending on what you plan to pick up, you can get ~50% of retail prices for seconds - and R.M.'s quality control is such that sometimes you really have to look to find the defect on many 'seconds'.

If I were you, probably local cobbler, if a welted version. Nailed sole you may have to send back.

I, like the rest of my family, have pretty obnoxious knee problems. We were all runners and suffer from patellofemoral syndrome, and walking a lot can actually hurt. I have a low arch/flat foot, so I need a comfortable shoe. However, I'm also a lover of chelsea boots, and adventure boots, so what i'd like is a pair of boots that can be used in light rain, that can face some dirt, and that are comfortable for long walks, but that also look sharp. I;d also really like for it to be relatively lightweight too—ridgeway and dainite can be pretty heavy on my knees.  I like the RM Macquarie in black—would there be a particular combination of uppers/soles that might work best for me? Is RM the sort of boot I should be looking at?
