A fish called wanda was written by John Cleese and takes a ton of homage from Python-esque comedies of past and present. Some python stuff is aged... some is timeless

Thanks, I'm well aware of the people behind A Fish Called Wanda. I mentioned Monty Python movies specifically to show the difference in my opinion between them and A Fish Called Wanda. In your zeal to brand me with this nonsense about me arguing with myself (whatever that even means) you seem to have completely missed that very obvious point.

What exactly does "improved efficient improv comedic timing" mean?

It is the filmmaker's goal to fill the plot holes and ease over the narrative inconsistencies of a comic turned film. It's a real challenge as what works on 8 panels rarely does when translated directly to the screen. The Walking Dead is a good example of how difficult this can be.

TDKR is a failed film from a narrative perspective - it is ridiculous at times, but because it is a huge financial success due to the average movie goer having little to no standards no one involved particularly gives a shit about the plot holes.

hahah I didn't say it sucked. it just didn't make me laugh. and I wanted to enjoy it like my parents (and I did as a 9 year old).

I'm saying that comedic timing has improved with everything lately due to the infusion of these impov guys. you can see improved comedic timing in everything now from 30 second commercials, funny or die clips, youtube clips and even the newer movies. They aren't better per se - not by a long shot. But the funny banter I got used watching the british version of The Office made things like A fish Called Wanda seem slow paced.

The more I think about TDKR the more I like it, and the more I think you shouldn't be comparing it to the other two. The tone, pacing, everything is different for all 3. These are not sequels but separate acts in a single story. "But boo hoo it didn't have The Joker!"....Ledger's dead, come on. "But...it wasn't as dark as TDK!" Of course not! It wasn't supposed to be dark! And I really appreciate the 'big picture' cinematography in homage to the silent films of old...and lack of CG effects makes me happy too.

Fuck it.....I'll go ahead and say it, flame all you want, but this is going to go down as our generation's Battleship Potemkin. Nitpickers be damned.

Kevin Kline was never better as a comedian than he was in this movie. Cleese was playing against type but he nails the straight role so well and injects a lot of heart and pathos into a character that could be just a stooge. I think I might watch this movie this weekend.

Yeah ... "our generation's BP" pretty much sums up your generation.

there's a running/rumor/joke/urban legend in the medical community about a certain genetic disorder that jamie lee curtis may have. my biochemistry teacher had a picture of her in a slide as an example/joke/ruse of it during a genetics lecture - it was an infamous lecture that featured lots of male/female/even weirder gratuitous nudity in itself part of the folklore that upper class men always asked about if he still did the same lecture.

either way was Jamie Lee curtis is super hawt.

Thought it might have been that, but I couldn't imagine someone thinking Jamie Lee Curtis wasn't suitably sexy in that movie.

Lol, I was just thinking about A Fish Called Wanda after watching Trading Places, and thought that I had to watch it again soon.

@IS: Me neither, but when I rewatch movies (which I did yesterday), I'm more prone to noticing such irregularities. I have to admit that I pretty much always check clocks in scenes to see whether they were really sloppy or not.
And yeah, do watch AFCW.

Killing Them Softly. Bizarre movie, weird pacing. Hardly any momentum.
