love takashi kitano. sonatine was a movie on netflix i really enjoyed. he's also in the first battle royale

He has a memorable role in Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence as well. I think that is still on Netflix. The director, Nagisa Osima, just died last week.

He's great in Zatoichi. That's a wild ride of crazy. Really good.

Love that movie.

Gran Torino: I enjoyed it, but it felt like the first effort from a director, rather than his thirtieth. Much of the acting, including Clint's, felt very stilted to me, and the denouement was completely over the top.

The Descent: a great little horror movie. Unfortunately it was the Americanized version with the "happy" ending, it's much better with the original ending.

I bought this movie years ago and still haven't watched it.

There were things I liked about that movie but overall I thought it was bad for the reasons you stated. The writing and acting were both very amateurish, not the kind of thing you would expect from a veteran like Clint. I kind of feel like Eastwood lost his touch a while back.

"Dog Soldiers" is also very good. I have no idea how, after such a promising start, Neil Marshall could have come up with "Doomsday".

Lots of great moments and visual puns...

Topsy Turvy. Long but utterly delightful. The musical performances are very good. It's kind of hard to believe this is the same director that made Naked, which is also excellent but in a very different way.
