"I realized that Christmas is... is the time to be with the people you love. And I realized that, as dire chance and... and... and fateful cockup would have it, here I am, mid-50s, and without knowing it I've gone and spent most of my adult life with a... with a chubby employee. And... and much as it grieves me to say it, it... it might be that the people I love is, in fact... you."

That may be best written perfectly delivered lines I've heard in years. LA is tragically underrated.

yes, that was an EXCELLENT scene. as was the scene and delivery by colin firth in portuguese in the restaurant. the huge gathered crowd made it even better. the fat sisters commentary, boken translation and the broken english of the woman put it over the top.

DUDE! only watched it because of you. really good. thanks!

i thought one of the most fascinating parts was how everyone who came into contact with him, ended up dying, but not through his hands.

How do you have the time to watch all these movies?

The only strangely unhappily resolved storyline is Laura Linney's. The whole thing is an orgy of silly romcom schmaltz and then all she gets is a tiny little hug from her brother as if that somehow makes up for losing the way-too-hot guy.

yeah, i kind of liked that. i mean i felt sad for her, but i understood it.

i think it added another vantage point of love. the unfulfilled agony. the little boy had agonizing love, but he resolved it. here, linney had agonizing love, but she was unable to move past the obstacle that was her brother, and she was left with love, but agonizingly so. and you could tell the dude was still not entirely disinterested in their last encounter. making the situation hopeful, but yet more agonizing, in that she knows she can have this love, but cant take the steps necessary to have a romantic relationship.

i think it was a very sadly human part of the film.

^^Baw... I wanted more sappy schmaltz. And someone to bang Alan Rickman's secretary. Was kind of hoping for Rowan Atkinson to step in.
