Touching on the QT topic again:
Quote:
Away from Tarantino's views on other filmmakers, he's suggested that there might be more button-pushing material to come, hinting at a closing part of his "Inglourious Basterds"/"Django Unchained" trilogy, named "Killer Crow," focusing on African-American soldiers during World War Two, and made up of material excised from 'Basterds.'

The director tells Gates "There's something about this that would suggest a trilogy. My original idea for 'Inglourious Basterds' way back when was that this [would be] a huge story that included the [smaller] story that you saw in the film, but also followed a bunch of black troops, and they had been f--ked over by the American military and kind of go apes--t. They basically -- the way Lt. Aldo Raines and the Basterds are having an "Apache resistance" -- [the] black troops go on an Apache warpath and kill a bunch of white soldiers and white officers on a military base and are just making a warpath to Switzerland... I was going to do it as a miniseries, and that was going to be one of the big storylines. When I decided to try to turn it into a movie, that was a section I had to take out to help tame my material. I have most of that written. It's ready to go; I just have to write the second half of it... That would be the third of the trilogy. It would be [connected to] 'Inglourious Basterds,' too, because Inglourious Basterds are in it, but it is about the soldiers. It would be called 'Killer Crow' or something like that."

Put me in the unimpressed with Tarantino category. Did like RD when I saw it at the premiere, but since then it's been one "fan boi" bullshit movie after  another. To me he's the indie equivalent of Michael Bay.

Silver Linings Playbook was a lot better that I thought it would be.

I too would like to jump on to the Tarantino hate pile. He is a childish sadist with no depth to him at all. In his defense I dont think he has ever tried to be anything else. He makes slick cartoons for adolescent boys of all ages. peepwall[1].gif

There's only one thing that I genuinely like about QT and that's his approach to narrative structure. Everything else I happen to enjoy only because I am reminded of other filmmakers.

I don't actually mind the level of violence, only that it's too cartoonish and gimmicky for me

just got back from the hobbit.. I was supposed to see it in 2d but the showing was in 3d so everyone ran back out to get the glasses. i'm glad it ended up being 3d. what an amazing movie. 10/10 for me. was better than all 3 LotR movies imo. The scene with bilbo and gollum was funny and all the characters were likable and did a great job. the necromancer left me wanting to see the 2nd movie so badly! i don't think there was a single minute that i didn't enjoy.

Dredd 2012 - superb pulpy, ballistic film and a kick ass soundtrack. One of my favourite comic cons in a while.

Pi - just started watching Aronofsky's films again - tonight will be Requiem for a Dream (no doubt fast forwarded to the ass to ass scene)

Kids insisted on 3D so I went a step further and watched it in the HFR version too out of curiosity.

Firstoff, it was so fucking loud in there it made my ears ring afterwards. My kids were plugging their ears during the battle scenes.

The movie sucks on its own, the acting is shitty, the storytelling is weak, its ponderous and clownish. The music was too dramatic too often. Why does every movie need this same stupid music during fight scenes? Didn't need the rest of my complaints to change that, but wow, this was an epic fail of 3D/HFR.

The movie is so perfect and crisp that it exposes all the sets and makes it look like a stage play. It looks so bad that even my kids said 'it looks fake'. Second, the soap opera effect is terrible, you just can't get past it. Lastly, its so crisp that you see makeup and costumes just look like, well costumes.

Requiem for a Dream. Terrible film and a huge misfire by Aronofsky compared to Pi, The Wrestler and Black Swan.

I just couldn't get on board with the hugely unsympathetic characters, and scratchy jumpy cinematography and alarmist story.
