Watched the guard based on this thread...was good definitely gave off the same vibe as in bruge. Idk if its a coincidence or because gleeson is in both.

Yeah, although I realized I had basically zero memory of what happens in the book. I saw the preview before Moonrise Kingdom (I think) and even before they flashed the title I immediately thought "oh, cool, they are making a Perks movie"...but basically the entire plot of the movie was a surprise to me as if I had never read the book.

edit: Which, honestly, is my favorite way to see a movie based on a book that I like. If I don't remember the book (but remember liking it), I can both know that I want to see the movie without spoiling myself on trailers, AND watch the movie without constantly comparing it to the book.

Not a coincidence. Cronenburg directed both of those. He's gone a bit more mainstream in the last decade but his movies from the 80s and 90s were weeeeeird. Check out Videodrome some time.

Just saw the new Jarecki documentary on the war on drugs/mass imprisonment The House I Live In, introduced by one of the co-producers (not Brad Pitt or John Legend).

Excellent film, if a bit superficial a treatment for those really well informed and involved in the issue. For the average moviegoer even tangentially interested in what's going on in America, this is a must see.

If you do watch this movie and become interested in these issues, you must follow it up by reading Michelle Alexander's "The New Jim Crow."

Is this the remake of 13 Tzameti with Statham in it? How was it? Don't think I've heard anything particularly good about it.
