There are times when I wonder if you have any sense of humour by the way you write. 

 

You seem a likeable enough chap and I read your posts, but  "never seen a good Asian movie" and "can't name a decent Asian actor" just seems to be too bloody stupid for a guy who is not that bloody stupid. Maybe I'm reading to much into it.

Most movies really do blow. There are just too many variables involved in movies. Too many variables that can fail.

I've never seen Ran and will probably never see it on my own accord. If I wanted King Lear I'd read it again or at least see the film version with Ian McKellan (which I started to watch and turned it off after 15 minutes). I don't think a good portion of the play can be rendered well in film (hence so many versions, all mediocre) and certainly not by Asian moviemakers.
Also, I can't name one decent Asian actor (as in a person who acts and doesn't just flip around, punch and kick in horribly-choreographed and overly-long fight scenes) but that may be because I never watch Asian movies since the few 'good' ones I've seen are all really, really bad. I also don't like watching dubbed movies or listening to people speaking East Asian languages, so that really narrows it down.

Exactly. I'm beginning to think that why is a mentally challenged troll. It wouldn't even be funny in DT. Hero is a great movie, House of Flying Daggers is at least decent.

do i catch the t downtown to watch perks of being a wallflower its at 10:10 I have half a pint left and I like to get to my movies a half hour early so id be leaving in less then 10 mins


it was one of my favorite books in high school

I've heard Kung Pow! is really funny from some people, but others have said it's really stupid humor. I usually don't like satires, so I'm not sure about it. Maybe I'll watch it sometime.

That Mother movie looks like a pretty standard Hollywood thriller except with Asian actors and subtitles. So what's the point? There are still plenty of thrillers -- all probably better -- that I still haven't seen. Is there anything different about it, or does it warrant more approbation because it's foreign?

I think it's a general problem that when I watch Asian movies they always feel like really cheap and fake imitations of Hollywood.

Also, the tagline 'A Tale of Beauty and Passion' seems pretty suspect for an Asian movie.
