Two days later and thoughts about it are still swirling in my head. I think I need to see it again (though sadly won't be in 70mm)

JP was crazy good in it. I haven't been a huge fan of his in the past, but whoa. PSH is amazing as always.

The colonial marines would have in fact kicked ass if they'd simply sent a decent commander who surveyed the installation (and it having a nuclear reactor) beforehand.
They could have then had proper tactics, only flame units, things like that. It would have been a much less suspenseful film though.
All of the above is still in contrast to the once in a lifetime, uber mission that is Prometheus and the 'tards that fly in it.

The whole colonial marine vibe just didn't ring true for me at all, and it's a common and boring cinematic trope. Not that I didn't like Aliens. Haven't seen Prometheus yet.

for those who were talking about paul dano a few pages back...anyone see L.I.E? I watched it a few years ago and thought it was decent...the subject is a little iffy and might bother some people though.

Saw it at River Oaks Sat night...what a reeking POS. Almost walked out 3 times.

Structure was too similar to There will Be Blood, and while PSH and Phoenix were amazing the film just didn't have that same level of interest for me. It's like, instead of following Daniel Plainfield's character in TWBB we followed the story of that guy who pretended to be his brother. The PSH character was the much more interesting one.
I don't know. May see it again.

I still think the performances were amazing, even if the movie didn't go anywhere narrative-wise.

The plot was light, but there is a lot of meaning you can draw from it in many different ways, imo.

JP and PSH were the only things that kept me in my seat, the acting was phenomenal, but WTF was up with that script? Garbage. Total garbage.

Harvey, am I right in remembering that you live in Houston? If so, you making it to the Evil Dead 2 midnight showing on Saturday?

Sorry Broheim, although I've visited your great state many times I live in Pennsylvania. Were I in Houston I'd be there with bells on.

Just watched To Rome with Love.

it's amazing how hipster can a commentary on a hipster be. honestly the movie kinda annoys the hell out of me save for the non english-speaking girls and the "soap" opera.

I think I've asked you that before, and I think I often get you confused with another attorney on here, who does live in Houston. Sorry frown.gif
