Chinatown with Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. Nicholson was great, and I'm always surprised how many movies from the '70's have endings... Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
that are very different from today's typical Hollywood endings

The '70s were the golden age of the auteur director (Polanski being a great example of the breed), and they got away with a lot more shit than directors are able to now. The accountants have always run the show, but for a brief period in the late sixties to late seventies the directors had the upper hand.

Tried to watch Certified Copy. As much as I want to bang Juliette Binoche, and I REALLY DO (she's so hot in a sort of French school teacher kind of way), it was so fucking boring that I deleted the file after skipping around for 20 minutes.

I like the Florsheim name drop in it. Back when those were good shoes, I am sure.

Eric Rohmer's La Femme de l'aviateur.
Kinda like talkie French fare at the mo.

Fish Tank (Andrea Arnold) - Really good movie from start to end.
Connected (Benny Chan) - HK remake of "Cellular" which is, oddly, pretty good, considering how bad the original was.

Almedovar

The Skin I Live In

Superb film. Best director in the world now since Kubrick and then Altman died.

I'm really mad at whoever it was that told me Insidious was good.

Saw The Help last night.
Some good performances but it was another typical introspective-white-southerner-helps-oppressed-black-folk Hollywood story (see Miss Burning, Miss Daisy, etc.)
