ok just watched Take Shelter

i knew already that Chastain has been tarnished from that other unmentionable film I recently watched. But man oh man this was one steaming heap of brocoli. It was more an exercise in bokeh, if you will, just excessive shallow depth of field cinematography capturing the boring brown plains of the midwest. open-ended endings are so clichéd to death now it makes one wonder, are "serious" directors obligated to leave their audience with a frustrating doubt or they allowed to just wrap that stuff up once in a while?

(thanks StephenHero for the borrowed words)

next up : Abel Ferrara - Not Guilty

I just watched that movie yesterday! It features one of the best insults ever:

"This guy is a CLOWN! (starts slapping the guy around) Sing us a chorus from Pagliacci, clown!"

Ya, its a fantastic movie. Strange how it moves at today's pace as well. No drawn out scenes like you get in 60's and 70's movies.

Speaking of long and drawn out, watched "Once Upon a Time in Anatolia". It was interesting, but wow, sorta slow and stretched. Its for effect though, not one of those movies that does this because of lack of ideas or money, but in more of a meditative sense. Well done, but dont watch it if you're tired.

Watched it last night. It was quite good. Interesting plot. Kept a nice tone throughout. Got a great laugh when that gunshot goes off and he runs into a closed door.

Anybody remember a movie on nickelodeon in the early 80s about a kid who created a talking laser and fought a spy who wanted to steal it from him? Not Cloak and Dagger, but maybe some kind of cheap rip off.
