Conspiracy Theory - Richard Donner (1997)
Not even the grace of God and large amounts of aquavit could save me through this so called movie. It was impossible to watch it to the end. How lousy can not Mel Gibson act when he doesn't fit the part? He destroys almost every scene he's in. Not that he is good in any of his movies, but here he is as low as an actor can get.
Gibson is an interesting and sometimes even a good director who has made the fine movies: 'The passion of the Christ','Braveheart' and 'Apocalypto'. All very wellmade and clever in telling stories that's more or less know, but he manages to make them interesting and fresh.
But Gibson act? No, please Lord, don't let him. Never, ever give us such a severe punishment again, Oh Lord, have mercy on us.
Julia Roberts is just slightly better, and is accepted due to her adorable smile.
Donner has made this movie in a vacuum. It is almost incredible who he could manage to make a movie i -97 that lacks so much of the movie language of the 90s. It's like a reminiscence of the 70s way to make movies, but without the crazy music. Terrible.
