Omega Planet Ocean or Montblanc Timewalker Chrono? - Page 2

Omega. No question.

Omega is a watch brand - Montblanc not! Also that Co-axial movement was developed in-house by Omega and is pretty reliable. Montblanc probably used an ETA or Valjoux movement and while those are proven, some purist may argue otherwise. Looks wise, it comes down to whether you want a rugged and proven sport watch (Omega) or a watch that wants to "look" sporty. I'm not knocking Montblanc but they're just not a watch company.

i think the new timewalker's are using montblanc's new in-house movement. I could be wrong though.

I never really considered a montblanc until I say one walking past the store. After briefly handling it I was very impressed. but you guys are right... it's not a watch company.

The Omega is MUCH more sporty than the Montblanc so it really comes down to what occasions you plan on wearing the watch. If it's for formal occasions I would clearly pick the Montblanc, otherwise, Omega all the way.

I would get the omega, but perhaps a model that will stay in style a little longer than the planet ocean.

you don't think this model will last? I really dont think of it as a trendy watch that will be going out of style at all.

I think its much better looking than the standard seamaster. Speedmaster is always an option too I guess. Aqua terra is a little plain for me, never really look to in depth into the deVille or constellation models.

Omega

Omega gets my vote, although I agree I would probably go for a more timeless model. I think the PO will date quickly.

i would take the speedmaster over either of those two, any day. it really is one of the most perfect watches ever made.

+1....but to each his own.

I love that Timewalker... As for Montblanc not being a watch company- that may be true in a sense, but it's not as if you're depending on Montblanc for the inner workings of the watch anyway. Like 90% of chronographs, it's got a 7750 inside...so Montblanc's watchmaking history is probably less important than their history of making pens. I'd expect their watches to be constructed to the same standards.

My vote goes to Omega. Omega has a fantastic pedigree and Montblanc doesn't. They make really expensive pens that really aren't that great. I wouldn't want those qualities for a watch.

I also agree that a 3750 Speedmaster would be a better choice. It's an almost identical copy of the same watch from the 60s that got certified for the Apollo missions. Utterly timeless.....

Planet Ocean's dial is based upon a 1950s Seamaster dial, so I'd say the design will have staying power. Big difference in a 3 hand dive watch vs a dressy chrono, so comparing these watches is like apples and oranges.

I prefer 3 hand autos and Omega is my favorite brand, so my choice would be easy. But both are solid brands that will stand behind their products. Go for whichever you prefer; you cannot go wrong with either.

I also vote or the PO. I don't think it will go out of style. I think vintage divers still look fantastic, and are highly sought after.. Also the co-axial escapement is something special.

James Bond proved it looks just fine in a formal setting as well.

Not that I would dis the Monteblanc. My favorite out of the Timewalker series is the GMT. I do think they make handsome watches.
