If your diet is in check, you'll be losing weight. And losing weight is not targeted to one place; so yes, you'll lose weight from all over, including your thunder thighs.

Running will help you to lose weight in all parts of your body. But if you want to achieve that faster your diet have to be O.K. (caloric deficit)

Running will make your thighs skinner 100%! I lost a few inches on my thighs this summer just from running... and I didn't exactly diet or cut out the booze!

Diet is vastly more important than exercise if the goal is weight loss.

Yep, your thighs will get skinnier but more defined with running. Thighs get bigger with progressive resistance training (think squats, leg extensions, hammy curls, etc.).

Yes. You may have to look into your diet too.

running will help, but doing resistance training will build muscle which will keep it off.

i learned that the hard way.

Depends on your body composition and the type of running. If, as the above posters assume, you have a significant amount of body fat, then running might reduce your thigh size. If you don't ramp up your food intake correspondingly. I reckon that's the situation, since you wouldn't be asking the question if you had a bodybuilder physique. As for the type of running, long-distance running won't really cause muscle hypertrophy (and therefore not increase your thigh size). High intensity sprints and hills might.

QFT.
Are your thighs mostly fat or muscle?
do you exercise now, if not, have you done any training on the past?
What is your diet like?

While everyone is different, I've reduced already muscular/lean thighs through running.

The last three years I've averaged 60-85 miles/week with no lower body lifting vs 12-20 mpw with lifting. Unfortunately I don't have any numbers to present but it is very noticeable. You can change your body drastically, the trick is having the discipline/patience for it to happen.

Best of luck on your quest for smaller thighs; it'll make pants shopping much easier.

Your thighs are not big enough until you can smell bacon when you walk.
