I love the look of BR's Chesterfield:

But I'm concerned about BR's quality and the ability to find one at discount this season (for example, a remaindered one on eBay is going for 60% of retail). CT has a similar one, but unfortunately only in tan (this will be my only dress coat for the time being), and apparently less fitted:

A third option I'm considering is this mystery auction! Any advice?

Jared, I don't know what size you are, but if you are going off the size claimed on that mystery auction, it's measurements are quite a bit larger than all of the coats I have in the 38 size range.

Ah, thank you so much for the tip! It has previously been established that the label size of a coat has actual dimensions to accomodate a jacket of the same size - can denning or anyone else give a ballpark of a typical offset in measured size?

I also really like the BR Chesterfield, and spent a fair amount of time last season looking for one on ebay for cheap. Never did find one, though, that went for what I considered a bargain. All I can say is that not too many pop up on ebay, and I failed to find them at the BR outlet last time I went. If anybody has been to a BR outlet lately, can you comment on whether or not they carried that coat? It goes against everything I stand for to pay retail for that coat.

This RLPL (?) in tan isn't exactly what I'm looking for, but the price is right:

Can anyone speculate on whether a tailor will be able to turn it into a fitted 38? Similarly, I see Burlington Coat Factory mentioned on here occasionally, is this what I'm looking for?

One thing I find interesting is that is seems a lot of people have reservations with DB suits, but when it comes to overcoats DB seems OK, even with non SF/AAAC type men.

BTW - nice coat Soph.

It's unfortunate how the men DBs are perfect for usually dislike them, like my friend Brian. I personally love both DB suits and coats.

At least one reason to be against DB suits is practical: the extra fabric and always-closed state can be too warm with today's obiquitous central heating. A coat is for passing between centrally-heated zones, so the extra warmth is more reasonable. However, those who live in relatively-mild parts of the world probably benefit from the flexibility of SB coats.

I really like coats especially one my local shop showed me it was for one customer made bespoke in savile row from vicuna. He told me that the price was 20.000 euro. Can this be or not ? Anyway the quality was over the top

I find myself tempted by the photo of the Men's Wool/ Cashmere Overcoat at Baron Boutique (the last item on the first page). Something tells me that chances are not good that anything they make will look like the photo, though.....

Which overcoat are you wearing? You got a better picture of it?
