Few things on SF are more entertaining than when a quasi-hostile party attempts to crowdsource his personal taste. Try not to think too hard about the incongruities inherent in a man who will wear only what he thinks others will like, but who holds others in general contempt. It's best to microwave a batch of popcorn and simply enjoy the show.
"alien anthropologist" As a Harvard/Wharton finance boy, I think you realize what a compliment this is. One must remain scientifically objective and rational in this game of style, lest he fall victim to fashion and her numerous fads and nonsensical "conventions", most of which are grounded in neither innate beauty nor function. AB, you are one of the best posters here. I appreciated your advice and experience regarding the Tiebar dilemma, and your Saddleback expose thread was epic. However, as someone who wants to trade his BB terminal for a quill pen, you don't read so good. I am hostile to bad
advice. I am receptive to and appreciative of sound advice. (Telling me my Mabitex pants are baggy as fuck is not sound advice, b/c I actually have to sit down at work. Real life vs. 2D magazine ads) Your assertion of no "personal style" may be unfounded. How many people here keep their bottom button fastened? None. Who lets their tie fall to the navel or their crotch. None. Personal style, my ass! Mass produced clothing and adherence to convention still rule the day at SF. My crowdsourcing "attempt" is a done deal. The Cheaney's are en route as we speak! $292 for shoes I will be wearing constantly this winter. A near optimal cost:usage:compliment ratio. I wanted a new shoe that shows well, and boy did SF deliver. Thanks for the anecdotal data, guys! In fact, it's selectively-quasi-hostile, b/c threads like this make me love the SF knowledge base, and the people who take the time to share their experience and wisdom. Looking ahead, I wish I could rewind to that huge AE sale a few months ago, b/c a pair of chestnut/walnut/whiskey/cognac brogues are next.
