Thanksgiving Without Turkey

At home sick so we ordered in Middle Eastern...fitting as I have no problem with a Mosque at Ground Zero, but seriously, any Americans here NOT have turkey today? Usually we do, but with some homemade manicotti, miss that today for sure! What non-traditional Thanksgiving food do you eat?

Didnt have turkey the last few years for TG. Shits expensive as fuck in Japan (Im not paying over $100 for a damn turkey).

No turkey here this year. Made a pair of soups, a cheese board with five cheeses and four cured meats, etc etc... pumpkin. cranberry, walnut loaf with cinnamon ice cream.

There are so many things more tasty and less cumbersome to make than a fucking Turkey. It's a retarded tradition and it's dying rapidly in some parts of the country.

I agree. We made a New York Roast this year and it is 100x better than a turkey.

We did, however, have our turkey meal two days ago when we had our company party and we still have left overs from that.

if my folks are cooking, we've never had turkey. it's roast beef for us.

I have never liked the taste of turkey, so avoid it like the plague anyway. We had a terrific smoked ham instead.

The best turkey we ever had was from KFC. That turkey was devoured in 15 minutes.

We last did turkey a decade ago. This year was venison, but Thanksgiving was last Saturday.

Went over to a friend's place... she's very... american. Turkey actually wasn't too bad.

Hello,

I am a newbie, saw this article and thought I would add my 2 cents in. Wild turkey was eaten at the first Thanksgiving because it was immediately available and would feed a lot of people. That is why turkey is cooked a lot still. Since all kinds of foods are available to us today, anything cooked and eaten with friends and family can be a thanksgiving meal. Some families prefer different traditions than others. I think the holiday is all about being thankful we are still alive and together with friends and family..just as the pilgrims celebrated it.

I had chicken.
