Christmas Tree cutting around NYC

This may be in the wrong thread, but I'll file this under "travel"

I've never actually cut my own Christmas tree down and ever since watching the Griswald's do it in Christmas Vacation, it's one of those things that I've had on my lifelong "to-do" list. The gf brought up the idea and I'm going to give it a shot this year. That being said, I've searched Google, but wanted to know if anyone has had first hand experience with farms in the areas surrounding NYC ? Recommendations?

Ideally, I'd really like to keep the drive at about an hour max each way.

Chill,

I live in the NJ burbs of NYC and we cut our own tree in said burbs. I'd say you (a) need to drive, and (b) need to decide where to spend an afternoon. Cutting a tree isn't all that exciting, unless you have kids (not really bucket list-worthy), so if you do it, I'd make a day of it.

Thus, you could, say, head to Beacon or the Poughkeepsie Bridge walk or snag reservations at Blue Hill at Stone Barns and then just google for Christmas tree farms in the area you're going.

I have cut trees in the Mendham/Chester area of NJ, and this area is thick with such farms, along with apple-picking, hay rides, etc.
