Good tailor in Vancouver?

Thanks for the information on cross border shopping. Sounds like it isn't much of an issue. With the CDN $ doing well against the US $ it is a good time to try this.

Any recommended tailors downtown? Need to get some pants hemmed and dont want them messed up

Stitches by the blenz in there will do it, but can't guarentee it will be good

I m based in Brisbane(Australia) and I m using www.himarkmartintailors.com from hong kong,they are custom tailors and travel to Auss quite frequently and I have visited their website and found out they also travel to vancouver(Canada).I ordered two suits last time for AUD 1200,i found it a good deal as the finish product was excellent.Their representative in Brisbane told me that they can do the alterations for free if in case one lose or put on weight.

While we're talking about Vancouver, anyone know a decent watch repair place? Lost a TAG crown and stem so while it's not rocket science, doesn't seem like it would be cheap either.

A bit late maybe but "the German watch maker" in Yaletown did some work on an Omega for me and was quite good. He is in a small shop in the mini-mall on Davie and Homer across from the jj bean coffee shop.

I know of a watch repair place on Granville near Georgia, downtown. They even had some spare parts for my 70's Omega. PM me if you'd like the contact info.

Would love to hear this as well, honestly I'm just looking for a good bespoke or MTM suit tailor (only looking to spend $600 to $1000 first though) but haven't seen any great/affordable options

I'd love to hear recommendations on suits in Vancouver as well. As a student who is preparing to enter the workforce, I need to pick up at least a couple more suits. After trolling the internet for information, and reading this entire thread, I am more than a little uncertain on where to look. As someone who is both tall (6'5") and very athletic OTR do not work for me. Yet, based on responses in this thread the quality of tailors in Vancouver seems underwhelming. Further, as a student I am constricted by my finances as summer work will be paying for this suit. I have budgeted about 1000/suit, although I've left some wiggle room and if necessary (as I want as good a quality as I can manage) can pay more.

So where do I go? Minichiellos? Samson? Modernize? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

A second, less important, question that has occurred to me after reading this thread concerns tailoring. As someone who is tall and athletic none of my shirts fit me well - they are either too billowy or short in the arms. Is it worth tailoring these shirts or just getting new MTM shirts from someone like Samson?

Can anybody chime in on a price point for the following stuff done at Minichiello? Not looking for exact obviously but maybe a ballpark.

I have a suit jacket that needs to be slimmed below the armhole and above the waist, as well as the trousers needing to be tapered a little bit from the knee down.

There is no one in town who does this. There's one guy in Seattle, I think (but am not sure) Roger on this forum has used them or knows someone who does. .

To save you reading the other 19 pages in the thread, no, no and no. People have recently had bad experiences with Minichello (at least for sport coats), Samson is out of his depth and arrogant, and Modernize uses fused construction (that, or they don't know the difference between fused and basted canvas construction).

If it weren't for your height, I'd say troll the B&S and pick up something made for athletic builds (Zegna Milano, Oxxford Type A, anything drop 8 with the right shoulder measurement, etc.) With your height, your best option is MTM Samuelsohn at the Bay's West End shop or Harry Rosen. If you want to save money wait for the Gala (at the Bay) or the Samuelsohn trunk sale (at Harry Rosen).

I can give a general perspective, I've found him to be generally more expensive (around 20-30% more exp than other places on average). It was $20 to take in the waist on pants, $12 to hem pants, $40 to lower the collar on a suit, $40 to shorten both sleeves on a suit, and $60+ to take in the waist on a suit. He charged $20 to take in a dress shirt from the back and $30 to take it in from the sides/armholes.

Hopefully that gives you an idea, for a suit I've only used him to shorten sleeves & lower the collar, and he did a perfect job (no complaints).
