I take your point, but i doubt very much that those people understand the ethos behind Nudie or take into acount the quality and construction of their selvedge denim . In any case the way i wear them and what i wear with the jeans will set me apart

I'm liking Cheap Monday for that reason. My friend spilled a beer on my leg the other day and I'm just like, whatever. If I were wearing Nudies then...well, there would have been bloodstains as well...

EDIT: Not to say I'll never wear Nudies, far from it. I daresay, "premium" jeans are becoming a phenomenon similar to bespoke suits in the other half of the forum. The haves eternally look down on the have-nots who don't know what they're missing. They will, needless to say, never go back. For me, what matters is *looking good*. Construction is a plus, but it's a diminishing returns situation between a pair of $200 and $500 jeans...

if the jeans looked nice before, why wouldn't they look nice now. fit is a key factor with jeans as is quality, and a lot of non "premium" brands have both in some or all cases.

it seems the orignator of the thread is getting a little too caught up in the whole mess of what seems to be designer jeans more than anything.

maybe the word premium just completely irks me.

I dont agree with this.

some time ago I had a pair of zara jeans and a pair I got at H&M, both had a surprisingly nice fit ande were cheap as hell. at some point I started getting some more expensive jeans, I bought a pair of Hugo's and Nudies, later on I wanted some unwashed ones so I got some 5EP's and APC's, and then I got my Diors a couple of months ago.

some time ago I took the zara and h&m jeans out of the closet along with a few other pairs I hadn't worn in a long long time, probably half a year and longer on some. I was like wtf, are these the same ones I considered a good fit a while back? to be honest they fitted like crap and I went running to my diors.

long story short; after wearing premium/more expensive and especially raw jeans I had gotten used to the perfect fit on them and the older ones were just terrible. this might not be the case for everyone but to some apparently.

The thread is all over the place. My point is similar to ^^yours^^. My style/taste changed. It's that simple.

It seems a lot of SF'ers have been stylish their entire lives. And the only reason they don't wear the jeans they had when they were in jr. high is cuz they outgrew them.

not me! ive only been stylish for a little while. from about 94 till last year i was wearing nothing but baggy jeans from skate brands, or maybe jcrew, and too big tees. i didnt know what fit was. sf changed that for me.

once you find it tho, its hard to imagine wearing the old stuff. ive tried... i cant do it.

Ok so why is this hard for some of the ppl here to believe? Why does it seem to ludacris to not wanna wear the old stuff in your closet that you bought before you had any clue what 'antifit' meant. Or back when selvage sounded more like something mechanics do with wrecked cars. I am new to this and not ashamed to say it. I used to wear Kik Wear and Paco jeans with construction boots (not even timbs, some cheap ass wannabees). I am glad I don't anymore. I moved to NY in 98 and slowly my wardrobe started changing. After 4 years of working in SoHo I was completely turned off my baggy jeans nut still hadn't the clue what I was looking for when I went clothes shopping. I have this female friend that I used to take with me and basically I bought what she said looked good on me. She turned me into a metrosexual. So now i am going it alone with the help of forums like this.

hahaha
It's pretty hard to find the balance between these two. Letting women dress you as an adult is just as uncomfortable as letting your mother dress you when you were a kid, and yeah, the final product is very Queer Eye'ish.
On the other hand, fashion forums on the internet populated by 98% men usually end up being geek out sessions regarding the quality of clothing and lots of abstract concepts that don't translate into style per se.

Regarding premium denim, I like CMF's artisan tag for all those Japanese denims out there, and I'd consider most other stuff (Diesel, Dior, the rest) fashion denims. Premium brings to mind LVC 47's or something like that. Something familiar but just slightly better in all ways than the typical $30 item.

I'm in the same boat. I used to be a thrift store junkie in the worst way. I lucked into buying some Orange Tab 505s years ago and became accostomed to them. I went into a department store and grabbed some 501s when my 505s wore out and they were just never right. I then jumped on the Diesel bandwagon and got some dark Keetars (probably the most sensible and non-fashionista of their line) about 5 years ago, but those eventually wore out and when I went into the Diesel store to replace them I had cash in hand but literally found NOTHING but terrible washes and cuts that looked like shit in my opinion.

I later heard of both SFs on a different messageboard that happened to have a jeans discussion, did some research, got a pair of SD103s and was hooked. I WISH I was easily pleased and could drop my money elsewhere and not care what I was wearing. My friends rock department store jeans and are cool with it, but I love the construction and attention to detail that you get out of repros and all the other brands we salivate over on here.

Nudies are a "fashion" brand? I use mine to do landscaping:

i've got my apc NS, which is going on 6 months and 2 washes, and my eternal 811s which are still in the bears plastic bag in the PBJ box. i don't plan to touch them until i'm happy with my apcs. i figure in the end i'll need three pairs of jeans - one regular cut, and two slimmer jeans. at the moment it's the apc and the eternals, i like the lower-rise apc more than the navelkissing 811s, but i want the japanese jeans for its denim and dyework as well. now to get me a pair of less fitted jeans...maybe in 6 months' time.

yea same here, a couple of years ago I Was wearing semi-baggy jeans with AF1's, at some point I got some slimmer jeans (dont know why actually) but even those that felt "slim" and "well fitting" at the time are huge and fit like crap

THe smugness of this view really bothers me..."Oh, since someone else knows about it now, it can't POSSIBLY be avant-garde enough for me!!"

Really, are you that concerned that someone on the street might have Nudies and your precious uniqueness will be destroyed??
