Gloves for cold weather (that don't make you look like fool)

It's getting cold in Chicago. I need a pair of gloves that will keep my hands quite warm without looking like I'm about to ski in fucking antarctica.

It can take like half an hour for my fingers to warm up again so I can type emails on my blackberry without feeling like they're going to fall off.

So, very warm gloves that don't look stupid. Do they exist?

You can usually find a fairly sleek looking black or brown leather glove at most department stores. I have a pair from Sears with thinsulate lining. They're not bulky and I never find my hands getting too cold (coldest it gets here is ~-40C). Edit: Cheapness is a plus as I find gloves are the first accessory you lose.

All the gloves are around $50. Or, if you have one of those discount stores nearby like Filene's or Loehman's they usually have some Portolanos floating around for the same price. They're straight-forward, well-made gloves, typically lined in cashmere.

i have madova ones that are iirc calf leather (super soft), cashmere lining (also super soft), and hand stitched throughout. i think i'm going to get another pair, but with shearling.

Cashmere Gloves.

I don't own these but was thinking of getting the black. Any opinions on cashmere? Is the warmth to $$$ ratio worth it?

Fun fact: -40C is the same as -40F! This is the only temperature where they are the same!
