Nigel Cabourn - Page 291

Anyone post SS15 preview yet?

Not Cabourn, but a nice deal on a Private White VC Ventile coat with shearling collar. I'd pick one up if I wouldn't be fairly redundant with my Mister Freedom midnight p coat and Cameraman.

Looks good, any concerns in particular?

That's the look I'm aiming for, and certainly how I picture all you guys, am I off base here?

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I wonder why he chose 2015, given that the war started in 1914?

Anyway, I expect great things .. imho the British in WWI were the best turned-out infantry of all time, at least until the fighting started.

I tried this on at corniche in Edinburgh and found it to be a very strange fit. I could not put my finger on exactly why I did not like it but there was definitely something not right about the jacket. It seemed short on me but I compared the length of it to the jacket I was wearing and the cabourn Scottish jacket was actually longer. It could also be done with having another button nearer the bottom of the jacket. This is of course just my opinion but the owner told me he had taken it down from online due to the amount of times it had been returned for much the same reasons as I gave for not liking it

EDIT: I should say this was not exactly the same jacket, different materials, but the same style.

This one to be precise http://www.corniche.org.uk/display1.php?Nigel%20Cabourn%20Jacket%20Scottish%20Jacket&id=867

Thanks for the insight! And the link...

I just received an email from END informing me that only 24 hours remain in their 25% off sale. Every Cabourn item is still available in all sizes. I have to admit that as an owner of a AW12 Crazy cameraman and Crazy Mallory, a SS13 Camo Notch and a soon to arrive SS13 Taped Aircraft (I hope it fits) there is not much of the current season which tempts me (I do like the Linen Tenzig). Much the same as this past AW13 (I did like the bench coat when it was on sale at uShowu however I did not pull the trigger).
I think that by repeating the same styles season after season current customers do not have much incentive to buy- and price points remain a barrier to new customers. Even END's current sale does not seem to be able to get people to bite. A bit of a shame.

Is that the surface jacket? I think you need the sub-surface jacket for underwater work ;-)

Aircraft jacket actually so it better stay over the surface.

I'd have to agree. I have many Cabourn pieces, including several pieces of outerwear. While I'd like to have that sky blue Ventile Aircraft Jacket, I'm kinda done with paying $750 on sale for a piece of outerwear. Surely, some other UK company else makes Ventile spring weight jackets at a reasonable price?

I seem to remember Albam making some pieces from Ventile. I've just had a look and they don't have anything in their current lineup.

Not just the one you mentioned in another thread (was it RRL?), but Private White VC makes a Baracutaesque ventile number.  I handled it over a year ago.  IIRC it was nice, but still pricey and not as good as Cabourn.
