Nigel Cabourn - Page 141

Yeah I agree - if you're looking for a coat to go over a suit, your money is probably best spent elsewhere. As far as I can think, the only potentially suit friendly (for my taste, anyway) NC piece is the hard drill peacoat... but even that's a stretch and I'd still suggest something else:

Well I suppose if one needing coat to wear over buying a suit is another "excuse" to buy Cabourn, why not?  smile.gif

True that, but don't try to put a Mallory under this great overcoat as the sleeves and pits are very narrow.

I ended up buying my overcoat in 48 (at Marrkt) to wear as a light coat/windbreaker (and I'm a 52 in tweed Mallory)

Am looking for a navy tweed Mallory in size 50. Two shops in Zurich have them but one is sold out of size 50 and they both charge $850. Do these ever go on sale or given that it is such a staple NC piece, does the whole run of 48, 50, 52 go for full price before the more irregular sizes go on sale?

they'll go on sale end of season

This is an early 1990s advert with Jason Statham to the left.

I have an early 1980s picture of a Cricket Club jacket from Harrods but can not find it at the moment.

Cool! Happen to have a higher res version of the Statham ad?

My take, for the most part nothing by Cabourn works with a suit.  Sure I woudn't do a Cameraman generally with a suit, but I really wouldn't do a King George either.  Maybe the solid navy King George, but I think you're still limited in what you can pair it with and good luck finding one.  Didn't even know they ever made it until the other day.  And the King George looks similar in a lot of ways to the Cameraman.  Only piece I can really see with a suit is a Mallory, and I think you're limited what you can pair it with.  At the end of the day a nice topcoat or trench is what you I would look at for most suits.

As for the raw yellow Cameraman, I'll say yet again that it's my favorite Cabourn piece.  I've tried it on many times, but I have yet to actually wear it.  I've been wearing my green Harris Tweed Cameraman this Fall and while it's nice enough, I much prefer my raw yellow Cameraman.  Depending on your suits and depending on the industry you're in, I could see the raw yellow Cameraman with a linen suit or chino suiting.  One of the advantages of the Cameraman is that you have the adjustable clasps as well which can help you take it in.  I say that because you may need/want to go up a size if you're going to wear a suit/blazer underneath.  Speaking of the raw yellow Cameraman, saw a size 48 on eBay the other day.  It was "buy it now" or make an offer.

The Yellow Cameraman is the one I'm wearing the most right now. I've decided it's my Autumn coat instead of a summer coat, firstly because it was too hot to wear in Summer, but mostly because it now fits right with a jumper underneath. I was slightly disappointed with the fit in the Summer (size 50) but it's all good now. Cabourn knows best.

Can anybody comment on the fit of the Dr Edward Atkinson Surgeon Jacket in Harris tweed this season?

I received a few things from UshowU yesterday - NCxEB navy vest, army green Mallory, army green officer sweater. Good stuff and good prices but I have to say that the officer sweater fits ridiculously small - it's tagged 54 and fits like a 50 mad.gif
