Hello all,

It does come up on the larger side. All my Cabourn items (jumpers, jackets) are in a 48 and the 48 seems a little oversized. I tried it with a shawl collar cardigan and/or a sweatshirt underneath and I could still have enough room to put another layer on (which I would not do). I have an Everest parka in a 48 from a few years back and that is comfortable but the Geddes in a 48 is much more roomy than that.

This was a military flight parka that pilots wore in WW2 so they were worn over sized. Depends on the look you are after.

Well, I have gone with the advice on here and changed my order with Marrkt from 50 to 48. They had actually already sent out the 50 this morning but have agreed to recall it and send the smaller one. Good customer service right there. I'll post a fit report when it arrives. Cheers for all the sizing advice.

ushowu just lowered their price for their FW 2011. THe brown mallory looks tempting, but i already order the grey army stripe one.

Does anyone know if any of the Mallory jackets are made in Japan?

To my knowledge the Harris Tweed (and the Linen) are all UK made.

Received my Skyliner today, really pleased with it although it's a slightly snug fit. I'm 50 in all other Cabourn so in keeping with what's been on here previously think the Bauer definitely comes up small.
I much prefer the Skyliner without the hood, do you think they're would be a market if I tried to sell the hood?

The generally line of thinking on the Geddes has been that it's actually a bit oversized.  Thing is IIRC the Skyliner is an inch snugger pit to pit making it 2 inches snugger in the chest.  Anyway, about the hood, I think there would be a market, but it'd be extremely small.  It would probably consist of Skyliner owners who would want a spare.  Personally I'd consider it if I had the same Skyliner, but at the right price.  That being said, I wouldn't in a million years sell it if I were you.  If you don't like the hood, then just take it off.  Keep it and put it in safe storage though.  If you ever decide to sell the coat I think it would be more valuable with the hood.  Others may prefer it and a Cabourn "collector" would likely want it.  Probably not a big deal, but I would just hold onto it.  Of course you could always float it on eBay and see what you get, but I definitely think you should keep it.

 

 

At the end of the day I really hope it works out for you.  It's tough with Cabourn because it's not cheap and if you can't make a return or you risk missing out on the right size if you order the wrong size then you're out of luck.  Were I to order a Geddes coat I would be torn between the same sizes.  It sounds like it does indeed run on the generous side, but IIRC you tried on a coat as a point of comparison (the K2 coat I think) has the same chest measurement in size 50 as the Geddes according to Marrkt's measurements.  Of course you don't just base the fit of a coat on the chest measurement.  Again, I just hope it works out for you either way and it'd be great if you posted how it fits when you get it.  I still would like to see what size those of who have a Cameraman got in the Geddes in comparison to the Cameraman, IE did they size down or stay true to size.

How did you go about contacting Marrkt? I've sent 2 emails using the contact-form on the site, and no reply at all. My opinion of their customer service is rather differnt to yours...

 

One more thing, the Geddes has the clips and the K2 doesn't.  That might help you out.  It can give you almost about an extra inch in the Cameraman in the chest, and the Geddes has clips the whole way down.

The top of the page with the mail form has a contact number, I've had to call about 6 times over the returning and resending of the jackets and they've picked up all but once. The DHL arrangements have, truth be told, taken more effort from me than Marrkt but they have agreed to foot the cost for the return as they sent it out after I had asked them not to (and it had made it to Zurich). I get the feeling they have been a bit overwhelmed for the first few days of the sale.
I'll report back as and when the new packet arrives.
