oh that's what i meant, the retail prices are so vastly inflated and starting to become incongruent with their value proposition that many stores have dropped them and a greater proportion of their sales will occur at a significantly discounted price. overall i think it would tarnish their brand image rather than help it.
That youtube video of the orange parka didn't look to good - it didn't appear to be very well made at all - feel really sorry for the guy - you'd expect better than that for over £2K.

That said, I'm quite happy with the Cabourn items that I do own, and will enjoy wearing them. I'll look forward to following smaller (and much more reasonably priced) UK-made labels like S.E.H Kelly and Howlin' from here on out.
I'm another who now finds cabourn majorly overpriced. I don't even look at it in the sale as I know that most of the pieces I am interested in are still going to be in the 8 to 900 pounds price bracket even at 50% off. This is too expensive for me. Again the items I do own are very nice and among some of my most worn jackets but I can't see me adding anymore to my collection however another taffy parka would be nice to add to my Ascent one. As an aside I have recently bought the SEH Kelly ventile mac Zissou and it is wonderful. I am a big fan of theirs and the things they produce. Well made and reasonably priced.
I've had to cut back on clothes spending anyway, but Cabourn is definitely heading out of my league.
Hah, I was hoping that was an autocorrect, rather than a Freudian slip.
I think there is a bit of intrigue that comes with creating garments that are reproductions of historic expedition gear, made in small numbers. But, they've effectively priced me out of buying said limited garments.
I agree wholehearted. I was looking a piece recently, I can't remember the name, and it was essentially an orange cotton hooded sweatshirt with nice buckles and it was close to $1000.00. Wow! I thought. I guess I'm finished wearing new N>C. pieces. I'm curious about this SEH Kelly though. Where can I take look?
SEH Kelly is GREAT. I was in their store checking out some stuff the other day now I'm even more fully on board with what they're doing:
The real tragedy of all this backlash against NC (for me, at least), is that the people like us who actually are interested in the heritage of the garment, the stories behind it, and its also its manufacture, are actually the ones who are losing the most by this absurd pricing. I've got zero information to back this up, but I'd guess that a lot of the people going out and buying NC at retail don't have a genuine appreciation for what it is that they're buying/wearing -- it's just a really cool/nice looking (and expensive) coat, or whatever. That's my two cents, anyway.
But that said - I do love all the Cabourn stuff I own and I'm really pleased to have all of it in my closet. I'm just concerned about the future for the brand and where it'll be price and stockist wise in 4-5 years.
