Raw Denim Fit Issue - Outer Seam Curve toward cuff

Hi All,

I recently purchased my first pair of RAW Denim. Went for the Edwin ED-71s but after wearing them a few times I have to honestly say I'm not enjoying them as much as was i was hoping to. Still prefer my Uniqlos at the moment!

Firstly, the outer seam on the right leg appears to curve at the bottom. I'm not sure if this is a defect of the cut, of shortening the denim (cuff was chain stitched back on), or the shape of my right leg! Gets pretty annoying as it does not fall nicely on shoes. Any ideas what might be the cause?

As you can see from the two images below the left leg falls as you'd expect, but the right leg appears to curve forward.

Left leg (normal):

Right leg (curves):

Other question I have is regard to the length. You'll note that the turnup is pretty big at the moment. Was told by the guy at the (specialist denim) store that its at the correct length because with time the denim would bunch up behind the knees and raise the fit. Ideally I'd like to be able to wear them two ways: (i) minimal break with no turnup; and (ii) no break with small turnup. I've never washed the denim and was not planning to for quite a while. When I do eventually wash them will they shrink enough to achieve the fit I am after? I understand they are sanforized which means minimal, if any, shrinkage.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Raw denim curves like that all the time, so you'll just have to live with it.
If you're going to cuff them, fold the cuff over once (double cuffing), if your cuffs are too tall it looks stupid. I'd just go for a small single cuff, or no cuff at all and let them fall naturally and stack.

Straight leg denim does that. If it really bothers you get a more dramatically tapered leg next time. Or you could try bringing the hem on those Edwins in closer, but it would probably mess up the proportions of the jean. Just a thought.

Appreciate the replies guys. Out of curiosity, how is that a property of raw/straight leg denim? And why is the rotation so much more pronounced on one leg than the other?

Just to clarify in case I miscommunicated earlier, when looking down its as if the right leg of the denim gradually rotates anti-clockwise, hence the selvage seam almost dropping over the face of the foot rather than alongside it as it does on the left leg!

Google "leg twist."

Happens because of the weave of denim. Deal with it or don't wear denim. You aren't the first person ever to notice this. Next time please do not start a new thread and ask this in I have a jean...(The Ultimate Jean Thread For Beginners) - ask questions here.

Your jeans are curling in disgust of those shoes

I think I burned a retina after I scrolled down to the shoes.
