Yeah, a decent server is key. But how much bandwidth was superfutures actually using? AFAIK (j is the only one who really knows), we've never had problem with bandwidth, just exploding servers, and Styleforum usually has about 50% more traffic than Superfuture at any given time (I've been monitoring traffic on both sites).

Any "my forum's better than your forum" undertones are pretty dumb and very boring, IMO. Both boards have different strengths, qualities and downfalls.

minya. we should have a political forum too. or just one with absolutely no rules. we could call it superwar or something. it could be like fight club where you go in and flame the hell out of each other, but still leave as butt buddies. should be fun.

Look, if you really want to discuss politics do it here. I'm glad that the other SF only concentrates on clothes. I can talk about all of that other stuff everywhere else, and for when you really get bored there's supertrash.

Anymore than that is relatively pointless to the nature of the board, in my opinion.

I've crossed over the bandwidth quotas at a couple of hosts (and paid for it), but never needed more than they could handle. The problems have always been with server load, and usually attributable to misconfiguration of various things that weren't my deal (the web server software itself, the mySQL process, etc.). Ikonboard was really hard on the servers, for reasons I don't care to know, but apparently Perl is much more "spikey" in the load it puts on a server. That was why we switched to vB in the first place.

That is a great movie. Well, great may be an overstatement. I think that the best gauge of a good board is the loyalty of it's core members, good content-to-noise ratio, and the ability to attract guests. I think that both boards have these qualities, otherwise we wouldn't have set up a camp here for Superfuturites. I mean, I can't imagine setting up a GQ forum refugee camp here. I was just commenting that the bandwidth problem seems to be a wierd one. I mean, these boards aren't Ebay or something.

As for the Current Events forum, it works here because of the implicit agreement between members here to keep the arguments contained to that forum. I don't really think that it would work on Superfuture without Minya and Hap being draconian about that rule and banning a bunch of people right at the beginning. And I'm pretty sure you guys are not down with that. And good governance requires the consent of the governed. True even of internet board "societies". There's some current events talk for you.
