Liqueurs

Holy shit there are a ton of them. I mean this is patently obvious, anything with flavor can be added to a liquor but still.

It is more than a little overwhelming trying to learn more about them and then what to do with them. Any good places to score some of the rarer ones?

The one thing that really turns me off with them is the idea that I'll only have no more than 2 uses for them.

could you define what you mean by rarer ones? and honestly the uses of liqueurs are the same as the uses for liquors.
1. Drink straight
2. Drink mixed.

different are made for different tastes... some can drink morita or a mandarinetto without a problem other prefer them mixed, it is th same for liquors some can drink gin straight other cannot.

Well like I've seen one Rose liqueur for about $80 bucks. I guess that's rare. Or like creme de peche. Just harder to find stuff.

I really like creme de cassis.

I think liqueurs are great, especially for dessert. I am very partial to Frangelico (Hazelnut Liqueur) it's not rare but it can be used in a lot of different drinks, most the time I use it to just slightly sweeten a stiff one.

for 80 usd you cna make your own rose liqueur i think. if i remeber correctly it is similar to making limoncello except using rose pedals.... not that hard and it almost the samething for any flower based liqueur and for the creme de peche have you not heard of intenrnational shipping?

Kir royale. There is actually some really excellent creme de cassis. I imagine that is what kyle drinks.

Ah, I see. I guess I've only bought the cheap stuff, which I use to balance the sourness of cheap white wine.

I drink Lucien Jacob. It's the only one I've tasted and I liked it so I assumed it'd be the safest buy. I'd actually never had creme de cassis until a few weeks ago and now I find myself drinking it more often than anything else. Are there better brands that I should try?

I don't know Cassis by brand, only that I have had some great ones from Burgundy while in France. It is pretty popular there, especially compared to here. I wish I knew more about liqueurs, but I don't.

Ahh, nice. Lucien Jacob is from the Cote de Beaune. I also wish I knew more about liqueurs. You're a pretty big fan of cocktails featuring champagne, huh?
