I am just amazed at what passes for a good sound system now.

I just helped my boss install a more expensive system from Best Buy and the whole time I am thinking it sounds like total shit. I just smiled and was polite though.

My place has a tube amp and tower speakers. Only 2 speakers and somehow blows away everyone system I have heard. Keep It Simple Stupid.

Bose is overpriced crap that they market to suckers that don't know any better. Seriously, $5000 for an ugly ass tv with crappy built in speakers. Who the fuck is going to pay that besides some huge idiot that is like "oh it's BOSE!" Spend $1500 on a TV and $3500 on a custom 7.1 surround system and you'll have way more bang for your buck.

The thing is, there are evidently a lot of those huge idiots.

I can see the Bose appeal: simplicity
By no means am I a Bose fan, but after years and years of tinkering with power cords, speaker cables, interconnects...replacing sources and power amps, selling and buying speakers and subwoofers, I am at the stage of my life where I can truly appreciate a simple plug-in and listen system. No interest in pursuing the evasive holy grail of sound or succumbing to the newest flavor of the month. Bose isn't in my plans, but when I unload the current set-up, I think I'll be getting an all-in-one unit from Arcam, Meridian or the like..and yes, I'd like some bloody tone-controls!

By the time you add wall mount, sales tax, labor and delivery - you'd be looking @ $6K tab for a 120hz 46" LCD with magic sound. According to their manager the target audience for this sort of product would big city apartment dwellers who refuse to go thru the clusterfuckery of doing conventional HT tailored to such environment.

I can totally understand this; a TV, Amp, Pre-amp, Cables, Speakers and "set up" all put into one box for teh price of a bespoke suit. No its not for Pros, but then they're not pretending it is.

What's worth watching?

I can only imagine that it's crap, based on the Bose products, but I'm sure they will still sell plenty of them.

when people actually think bose speakers sound great, you know the marketing team is doing something right.
