I'm going to say this...both of these are bullshit (at least for me). Multiple times I've done the opposite and its worked out very well for me and I'm happy I worked shit out or got back together. Then of course there are my friend's grandparents who broke up twice in a few years of their early relationship, and have since spent decades of matrimonial bliss together.
In short, it CAN work, but it'll either be one way or the other. You'll have a great LTR or nothing. And it is probably a ratio of 20/80 respectively.
