Worldwide Louie Bag Shortage?

So I was at NM over the weekend and I was looking to get a new LV bag for my girlfriend to replace the current (worn) one she has and the salesman tells me that there is currently a world wide shortage on most if not all Louis Vuitton handbags. I couldn't tell if this was a ploy to get me to buy something there (although the pickings in store were slim) or if he was telling the truth (mainly because I read recently that luxury purchases are back to where they were pre-economic crisis)

Has anyone else heard this?
