undershirt with slimfit dress shirts?

as weather turns colder and colder, the need for more layers and warmer clothes becomes a necessity.

and from my experience, the undershirts make slimfit shirts puffy as the waist section gets scrunched together... then the issue is exasperated if i wear a slim fit sweater on top of the slim fit shirt...

also, if i wear the thermal under garments (nikepro thermal), with shirt but no tie - the neck area of the thermal would show if i unbutton the top button of my dress shirt. i know thats a faux-pas, but what are the ways around it besides buttoning it up and wearing a tie?

it still gets puffy, because unless they make thicker compression undershirts, even the standard fit undershirts are puffy compared to slimfit shirts that are body hugging also if you are referring to thermals.. they dont make vneck thermals as it would defeat the purpose...

Thin v-necks... or if you're cold, add an above layer like a sweater or cardigan

If you are using an undershirt that hugs you pretty tight, I can't see the problem. Make sure the length is good enough to stay tucked.

Faux paus or not, some shirt showing doesn't bother me. I interchange both crew and vnecks. That said, I have some shirts that fit too tight to wear an undershirt but I prefer to have one.

It sounds like you need to size down on your undershirts. In my experience, Hanes Premium Cotton tees from Walmart/Target are pretty slim, comfortable and CHEAP! Crew-neck and v-neck are both available.

If the undershirts you have now aren't slim enough, just find something slimmer, or size down so that it hugs your body to the point where it won't puff up around the waistline under your dress shirt. As long as your slim-fit dress shirts aren't skin-tight, this shouldn't be too much of a problem. I got some plain white v-neck shirts from H&M that I use as undershirts sometimes...they're very slim and only cost $5 each.

I do not like and thus do not wear undershirts - even when it is -30°C outside.

Like another poster said - better add another layer in top in case you are freezing...

If your undershirts make your shirts puffy, your undershirts are too big or your dress shirts too tight. Period.

I have been through tons of undershirts. I wear one even in the hot and humid weather. I find that the Nordstrom brand undershirts are the best because when you size down to get them nice and snug they still have a decent amount of length for tucking in.

btw - i am already wearing size S (SMALL).. cannot size down to XS as it doesnt exist so i suppose the only way is to... not wear it or wear a tie

What brand are you using? You should try other (tighter fitting) brands. They all fit differently. You'll notice based on searches that everybody has their own preference.

Based on the measurements you posted in your profile, we seem to be about the same size. Pick up a pack of these in Small. I have a 37" chest and a 30" waist and a small fits very snug. Plus, they are 100% cotton so you can dry them on high to shrink them a bit.

I'm 6'0 150lbs and find size small v-neck from Hanes literally hug my body, especially after you wash and dry them once. I always wear them under my slim-fit dress shirts and have no problem at all.
