The Gorilla Shoe

Saw these on Gilt. Seem to be at a high price point but that doesn't mean anything. American made for what its worth. They look like a hipster version of RWs IMO. Anybody have any experience with said shoe?

Aren't Red Wings "a hipster version of Red Wings"?

LOL yep. But at least RWs haven't changed their aesthetics to suit the hipster crowd. Seems like these guys have.

Used to sell em at Barney's. Very high quality and goodyear welt. Thought about getting a pair with the employee discount to use for hiking/horrible weather.

>Brutally Strong Shoes.

I think maybe this part is a slight exaggeration.

Those look horrible - like an unholy blend of tech hiking boots and RWs. I love my Keen Growlers and I love my Katahdins, but I don't see the value in striking the middle ground like this.

I like it, but I think it would be better in brown as opposed to navy.

I don't understand the comments about looks and appealing to hipsters? They are intended to be high quality bad weather boots....

For really bad weather, get Sorels. Not the $1000 pairs from Bergdorfs. The originals that people in Winnipeg wear. If you don't think that these appeal to hipster types, you're not using your imagination.

Kind of strange Gilt sold out of most styles, considering the last sale they sold out of like one size in all the styles combined.

I got this pair here at the Barney's warehouse sale this past summmer. $90.

They make a good and more rugged substitute for my clarks DBs. They weren't too over the top with the contrast stitching or lacing or multi-paneling either. If you look closely in the picture, there is an embossed imprint on the back of this boot of their gorilla logo. The pair I copped thankfully didn't have this.

They ran big, had to size down by a half size, but if you're going to wear really chunky socks, stay with your size. Took a few wearings to break in, and now part of my winter rotation.

And if it is important to you, yes, union made in the USA.

^Just picked those up in black but the leather looks much less distressed. I got them for a great price and in my true size. Hopefully they aren't too big, but I feel if they are with the combination of chunky socks and an insole, i should be good

Haha, I wear those joints when I have to shovel the driveway.

Will this survive repeat abuse in my gorilla war against the oppressive regime?

Am I the only one who thinks they look like pretty ugly alternatives to RW? The chukkas look decent but the contrast stitching and just the overall shape on the Lifestyle remakes look cartoonish. Not a fan of the tags, either.
