I think I hate San Francisco. - Page 169

Bart: you'd have to get off at Montgomery or Powell, both of which are on Market with no easy transfers. The W is just far enough away from Market to make walking with luggage a pain, especially if you're not a one bag guy.

I would do Uber. Most drivers know to pick you up at the private pickup lanes on the lower level.

BART: 8 bucks, 45 minutes and some hassle (as Hayward points out the W is about a 5 minute walk from BART)

Cab or Uber: 50 bucks, 25 minutes and painless

I believe the matter is now settled.

If you have never been to SF, don't take bart, take Uber X.

I'm a very strong believer in spending (within reason) to reduce stress while travelling.

Who told you the W was on Union Square? Also, it reeks of date rape.

What is the scent of date rape? Alcohol with a hint of vomit?

Just arrived. UberX was the way to go.. $32 ($22 after $10 promo) bucks and it was really quick. I'm from NY and work in the flatiron; my bad about the W Union Square typo.

The lobby is definitely kind of sceney but the room is great so far and perfect for my short trip/needs.

Now off to score some lunch, probably some chinese, and get lost/familiar with my surroundings.

Welcome. Thanks for bringing the rain with you! It's been mighty dry out here.

lol.. at least it isn't freezing rain and snow and ice and sleet... I heard what's happening here will hit NY on sunday when I go back. pure win!

anyone up for a lunch reco within walking distance or perhaps one that's worth a cab ride ? Yelp can be a clusterfuck sometimes.

Based on some earlier reco's I'm close enough to this spot: http://www.yelp.com/biz/r-and-g-lounge-san-francisco If nothing else comes up this looks pretty sweet after a 6.5 hour flight.

(Randomly found this thread and replying to first post) At least you're not in London. Every time I'm in London for even a few days, I start to miss SF like crazy. London is like all the bad parts of SF times 100. There are places in London where you can't even get 3g, it feels like the third world. Then again, I have a gorgeous apartment in Nob Hill. You could only afford SoMa :(

It's kind of like NYC, you will love it if you have means and live in a great area but if you're working class; you'll need to pay outrageous prices for shitty apartments/ dirty streets. This pretty much applies to every big city though. Especially NYC.
