The worst line has got to be the ice cream line at Bi*Rite.
For pour over coffee, there's actually a great joint on Grand Ave in Oakland that serves it well, and there's never a line. Monkey Forest Road. Stupid name, great coffee.

The mestrogen level in the BiRite line is off the charts. Ice cream isn't that good, either.

:D

We recently took some out of town-ers, 2 girls from Texas, to Bi*Rite (they had heard of it, it was a sunny Saturday, we begged & pleaded, but they insisted). We dropped them off because there's no way I'd suffer that line. After picking them up, did they comment on the ice cream?

Monkey Forest Road is one of the main drags in Ubud, Bali. Does the place serve balinese coffee?

The line thing is out of control in SF, though. It is one thing to suffer a wait, it is another thing to search for a line.

I think there's an absurdist play in this: Six Foodies in Search of a Line.

Regarding the whole standing in line thing, its common and a sign of pride (of the standee) in Austin and I suspect that it is common in places like Brooklyn as well - so hipsters = long lines.

What's better? Mitchell's has gone down hill, and BR has better flavors than Humphrey Slocum (for my taste, anyway).

The Starbucks in my building often has a 10-15 minute line from 8:30 to 10 or so.

I like Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous more, but honestly I am more likely to stop at Swenson's because it is in my neighborhood. Lines on hot days only.

Ah. I've heard of M&MM but haven't tried it yet. Swenson's is just the sentimental favorite, like Friendly's back east. Not really that good, but tastes like it "should".

Mr & Mrs is part of the SF family, so that is a bonus. When I crave ice cream it is because it is hot and I am walking the dog, so Swenson's is perfect.

I saw the SF ballet last night. Their Romeo and Juliette was the 4th version I have seen in the past year and is better than I could have hoped. Didn't even have to wait in line. Tickets were expensive - similar or even more than in NYC.

Was it up to the superb standards of the Boston Ballet?
