Sounds like you already know your way around...I'd go for Russian Hill or Nob Hill just to get some respite from the tourists.

Where to shop for men's sport coats in San Francisco?

 

I've been looking for a wool jacket in a modern cut for months...hoping for an unlined version with soft shoulders and a modern cut like the ones LBM 1911 or Boglioli or Lardini or Cantarelli make. 

 

Would rather not buy on-line or go to Italy.

I'm about to move to SF. Where should I live? I really only care about four things:

1) in the immediate proximity of expensive shopping
2) in the immediate proximity of expensive bars
3) as urban as possible -- don't want to see the sky unless I look up (doable???)
4) safe enough that my girlfriend will feel safe

I'm 22 and I have money to spend.

I would look at the Ritz Carlton residences. Don't know if there are any on the market at the moment but that may be your best bet. St. Regis residences would probably be your next best bet.

Unlike say, Manhattan, San Francisco's area of high-rises is pretty limited, and covers the downtown/financial district. That area is known for expensive shopping, tourism, and office jobs, but not as the best for bars that free-spending 20-somethings like to hang in. For that you probably want Mission Dolores and the Valencia corridor. Fortunately, the city is compact, so everything is within a short taxi ride.

To partially answer my own question, Barneys "of New York" located in downtown San Francisco has Boglioli.

after careful thought and consideration and after days of exploration, I have concluded that SF sucks compared to LA.
