Alcatraz once, escorting a friend who was visiting from Texas.

Like all real San Franciscans, I went once for a birthday party as a youngster.

I will forever think of Eddie Izzard when I think of Alcatraz.

Speaking of riots ... guy pretends he's a poaster in this thread vandal, and gets threatened.

The photo in question went viral pretty quickly, at least around the Bay Area. Reddit has a thread dedicated to finding the man in the photo. Even I retweeted it. San Francisco resident Tony Lukezic saw it Monday night after some people pointed out that he looked like the vandal. “A couple of my buddies said, ‘Hey, this guy looks like you,’” Lukezic told Wired. Instead of just laughing the resemblance off, Lukezic switched out his profile picture with the offending photo and began to boast that he was indeed the bus smasher. It seemed funny right up to the point that someone took a screen grab of conversation under the profile pic and posted it to Twitter.

A few hours later, the screen grab wound up on the Facebook page of a San Francisco nightclub called Red Devil Lounge, where commenters began posting Lukezic’s phone number, information about what sort of car he drives, and pictures of him and his son. He also started receiving anonymous messages from outraged citizens.

Gah, I was afraid it would be something like that. A friend posted the picture and SFGate article about it, and one of the commenters put in this guy Tony's information. I called out the commenter who posted it, that he was buying into the witch hunt mentality and this should really be dealt with by SFPD and the DA. I hope nobody hurts the guy (even if he is kind of a dumbass for not foreseeing that response).

I have actually been twice and enjoyed both times...

Took my visiting 8yr old nephew who pretty much thought it was the coolest place he had ever been- we did the audio tour- with actual former inmates giving the narration...it was actually pretty cool. He, of course, had to get the "Property of Alcatraz" sweatshirt which he wore for yrs back in MN.

The second time I spent more time in off the beaten path places- like the original brig from the Civil war days and spent a long time outside in the "yard" and surrounding garden...it was a beautiful day and a great deal of the island is being taken over by the flora- bird haven- giving it a semi-wild feel...

its a pretty cool half-day trip

We love San Francisco, but obviously not everyone is going to have the best first experience. If you go and do touristy stuff, SF is going to seem kind of lame, but if you go to the hidden concrete slides in the Castro, hit up Bourbon and Branch for a drink, or watch a movie with your wife in Dolores Park during the summer, you'll never want to leave. Don't write it off just yet.

Best of luck on the new job. Stop by UNIONMADE GOODS if you're looking for some new threads.

Any restaraunt recs for a group of 16 to 20?

a lot of places tell me prixe fix dinners. Which I hate.

The only accomodating spot seems to be Bar Agricole at this point.

Apt descriptor.

Finally got out of Colorado after three days in Crested Butte fishing and staying in a log cabin.  Loved that town. Screamed through the Colorado National Monument on the way which was breathtaking and a little hair raising.

After UT and CO I was all like "America, FUCK YEAH!" - really appreciating the breadth, dimension and beauty of this country. Then we drove out of the rockies and hit Kansas where I currently sit in a Holiday Inn Express somewhere in the middle.

For the past 6 hours I felt like "Square" in Flatland.

Thanks for liking the store! Not too sure what you mean about "no shilling in the thread." We were just sharing some cool things about the City
