I've honestly thought of bringing with me some papers from my doctor just to shove it in their faces and tell them to fuck off.

I guess it's because we're in america and people like to use "allergies". I just can't believe someone would be allergic to an entire species. I'm sure you're not lying but I mean, can you really blame people?

Sure, it's not the most common allergy, but still, why would I lie about that? It actually sucks not being able to enjoy fish, a lot of it looks delicious. The worst part is that we react to the proteins, meaning there's virtually no fish we can eat. I know that when I was a baby I could eat rainbow trout (obviously I was a baby and didn't eat much of it), but then I was fed some other fish, and reacted badly. After that I've never tasted fish except for two times when I thought I ate something without fish and it turned out it contained tuna. An estimated 2.3% of Americans – that’s nearly 7 million people – report allergy to seafood, including fish and shellfish. http://www.foodallergy.org/page/fish-allergy (I'm in Norway, and I've never heard anyone question someone with asthma, nut allergies etc.. Why question me?)

Well you're one of an elite few. I don't know you at all so I couldn't tell you if I think you're lying. But live in this country long enough where neurotic mothers actually think that their child having an allergy makes them more special, and you'll understand my apprehension.

I know a number of people allergic to shellfish, but yeah, I am generally skeptical of fish allergies as well. Maybe a little less so now.

The shellfish thing is completely believable. A lot of people have that. I have a harder time believing fish allergies, but I realize that they are real and people have them (it just seems to be a pretty prevalent "allergy" for how often you'd think people would have it). That said, I feel bad for people who are actually allergic to fish. God that must suck.

Anyway, like SField said, a lot of times people say they're allergic to things they don't like. Everybody has heard the line "allergic to onions... well if they're on the plate. I can eat them if they're in sauces or stocks." Or, like I was told by two guests last night "I'm allergic to every kind of seafood except tuna and salmon." Orly?

my better half has a tough time with salmon. She actually really likes it, but it inevitably makes her quite ill. We once had a dish at EMP that contained smoked salmon as a small part of the overall dish, and she was feeling it a few minutes later (it was not obvious to us that salmon was a part of it, she felt off and asked the waiter who confirmed). I don't think it's an allergy, but it is weird so we make sure she avoids it at restaurants.

I would never say I was allergic to something if I simply didnt like it. I have a severe allergy to all nuts (every one), legumes, and all fish - shellfish and not. Its no joy, believe me. But I have been this way my whole life, so I dont feel like Im missing anything at all. PB&J sandwich? Never had one. Tuna fish sandwich? Never had one. Dont care really - they are just giant plates of poison to me. The only thing that pisses me off is the roasted nut guys in the city in the winter...damn those smell so good.

Salmon is one of the few things I don't really like. Not that this little fact has anything to do with the discussion at hand.

Kind of over salmon.

Also fairly over most preparations of lobster.

I'm over lobster, but still love salmon. I could eat salmon daily and would not grow tired of it.

Obviously the All-Star breakfast, eggs over easy, scattered, smothered, covered, and peppered.

Waffle done light.
