Solo birthday dinner in Toronto?

So I don't know many people in Toronto, and those who I do know are either cheap hipster bums who aren't willing to pay more than ten dollars on a meal, only eat vegan, or don't eat at all. It's my birthday tomorrow and I'm strongly considering going out and treating myself to a high quality nice little dinner alone. I'm thinking maybe a couple of glasses of good wine, a couple of light delicious courses and a yummy (has to be well made and good quality) dessert to cap it all off. I've looked over the Toronto restaurants thread but recommendations are all over the place, and I'm also self-centered, so I want personalized answers here. It would be nice if it was a restaurant where it wouldn't be weird to go alone, though I have no problem hanging out solo.

I did that a few years ago. Nothing shameful about it. If I was a big baller, I'd have a pizza delivered to your place. But alas, I just spent my last $300 on a hotel room in Sapporo, Japan in Feb.

Sounds good if you're comfortable, nothing weird about wanting to enjoy life if your friends aren't willing to enjoy with you. I'm usually stuck in your boat as well, my friends aren't about finer things. What about your family?

Not on my birthday but I've had a few very great meals alone. I love having a two hour lunch by myself and when I was traveling for work, had no problem with a good dinner by myself then sitting at the bar solo.

Yea, I think enjoying a quality meal alone is underrated. Especially if there's good ambiance. Nyood and Kultura both look interesting. Anyone else have any opinion on either?

Why not give your friends a chance here, they might surprise you seeing as its your birthday and all.


Or invite out a few SFers to make it a more interesting/memorable birthday.


Nothing wrong with being solo, but always nice to celebrate your birthday with people who make your life interesting.

FYI I eat alone all the time but usually a cheap place. Long meals at expensive restaurants are better with company. You get to try more dishes and good conversation makes the meal much more enjoyable.

You have a lot of time to think, people watch, browse, basically enjoy your town on your own schedule without having to worry about making conversation. It's very relaxing and there's no shame in it. No wonder we're all lonely masturbators. FUCK
