My guess is it will be fine. Cotton and linen worked well though the premordanting phase of the linen was a bit of a bitch. Both are cellulose based like bamboo linen and if i'm right it doesn't have the wax in it like flax linen does. Silk and wool which are both protein based have worked the best so far. The color is brighter and more steadfast but the mordanting can be tricky. Screw up the ratios and temperatures and you'll jack up the fabric quick.

Interesting thread, had no idea about bamboo.

^^Yeah, I agree. This is what I like to see. Some real knowledge about clothing that goes beyond "Do these jeans look cool?"

Yo Mauro, you mentioned fabric classes. Any in the Brooklyn/NYC area you could recommend for a total amateur? Man, I'd love to get inside a mill and see how shit is actually made. It'd be like visiting a brewery. I'm all about knowing what exactly it is I'm spending my money on when I buy clothes.

BB1 and I are both correct. You want to break down the make up of the fiber and that's totally fine.
However you can't shit on rayon when there are VERY high quality rayon's on the market.
what does it matter what the rayon is made from ...a lot. Bamboo is a sustainable resource. Cotton at this rate is not. Not to mention the growing , nurturing , and chemical process that go into cotton are retarded. using plants such as bamboo can give companies a lot of room to try new stuff.

There are different staples of rayon just as cotton. From a design point rayon is an incredible fabric to work with. My bamboo rayon tee's can be washed a zillion times and the look and feel great.
I am sorry you are buying shit product but what can you expect from a $2.00 tee.

what fabric mills are doing with bamboo is amazing and it's growing into other fabrics. Soon we will have quality twills and denim with bamboo in it.
High end designers can afford to use more expensive fabrics for many different ways and it's because of the high end designer the fabric can then begin to be mass produced for mass consumption. I think that's pretty damn good.

BB1 I am glad you did some more research and surf the internet well. You have opened a the eyes of a lot of people. However it doesn't mean rayon is bad or bamboo rayon is cheap. That is not the case at all.

I go by what the mills tell me as they are weaving it. I learn by making garments out of it and testing it.

I don't feel like rayon is rayon. that's like saying jeans are jeans and a car is a car. Yes it's true they are what they are but it doesn't mean the quality level is the same.

Acl1- did you pre-shrink your fabric after you bought it. Always do that. certain fabrics shrink more than others even if they say they are pre-shrunk.
In NYC go to FIT or parsons. You can take non- credit classes. you can also buy their text books.
You can also go to knitting school which is pretty fun and see different loom's in action.
