Is Masa overrated?

i counted 26 seats , nice Japanese restaurant in the Time Warner Center. There is no menu; dinner takes around 3hrs, $300-500 prix-fixe. I had the opportunity to dine there this past saturday, it was good but not as unparalleled a omakase experience as they claim. Has anybody else tried it?

In my experience, it is one of very few NY restaurants which is not overrated.

I think it has tons of detractors and people who laugh at the pricing (mostly Japanese) so I'd say it's not overrated, at least not in a vastly consensual way.

I've only eaten at BarMasa. Much cheaper, but still expensive. Very good.

I'm no sushi expert, and I wouldn't even say I'm a big seafood fan, but I really liked Masa. A few years ago I walked in there around 1:30 one afternoon and sat at the bar. There was maybe one or two tables occupied. I struck up a conversation with the bartender, settled on an assortment of sushi, followed by the thousand layer cake (or something like that) and had a fantastic meal. Everything about the experience screamed quality.
