Josepidal posted in another thread that the shoes that started this thread are most definitely not EGs.

He mentioned that in this one too. But I still think something's fishy. These appear to be PL shoes, regardless of maker, so they'd still be a spectacular bargain at $265. And I'd like to think that PL would maintain some semblance of quality consistency as it shifts makers. So if they're not EGs, they may still be fine shoes.

That said, A Harris was certain these were EGs ... I wonder if perhaps the woman Josepidal spoke with was ill-informed. Perhaps Polo named the shoes differently than EG was expecting? Who knows what's really going on?

If nothing else, it will be entertaining to see how this plays out.

If the past average US retail mark-ups are any guide, Edward Green was letting Ralph have those Corbens for under $148 a pair. Should you feel there was a possibility of that happening, I've got some Enron stock for ya

.

P.S. The Gherardos were picked up @ Ferragamo store.

I think the assumption/hope is that they were simply mispriced. I can't imagine any PL laceup retailing for $325, regardless of maker (or how much Ralph paid).

As someone has suggested there is likely a picture mistake and these could be PL sandals for all we know.

I should get mine by next week sometime.

But any PL shoe that is a suede lace up should be a steal at $325.

Doubt it. I cc:ed a copy of my inquiry to the president (?) of EG, Hilary Freeman, who has gone to the Mansion on occasion for trunk shows. From past experience EG and C&J were very familiar with their Polo lines.

But... hey, yeah, maybe the name was just wrong.

Perhaps you can inquire with C&J then about whether they make the Corben shoe for RL (handgrade or bench?).

Because the picture is of what is most definitely an Edward Green shoe.
All this questioning had me wondering if my own evaluation of the pic was perhaps wrong. Then I remembered that I've never seen a non EG shoe with the RLPL script on a dark sock (there are some C&J ones with the script, but it is always on a tan sock.)

Anyways, there was way too much conflicting info on the site to say anything for certain until someone has actually seen the shoes. Two things are certain though, if we hadn't ordered them and they turn out to be EG's we'd have been bummed. And if they aren't EG after all, well the return policy is good!

Fellas, let it go

. Honestly, if I were to pick one pair from the current sale offerings it'd be the Camdens. They're beautifully made shoes which I've held in my hands this past spring waiting for the floor guy to return from the " back room " to tell me they ain't got my size

Dear Sir,

I have been informed by Ralph Lauren today that the shoe
they named Corben is in fact Stern which is made by Edward Green.

With kind regards
