It's like a giant scale glen plaid but with the lateral plaids stripped down so that the verticals dominate and the horizontals are almost just stripes.

Gotcha. Greg's version had me worried about you, Bill. Next, you'd be asking for silks with Santa and Rudolph motifs to send to Cappelli.

Really? This, while being less caricatural, is not better. I don't know what other "Russell Plaids" look like but the one pictured here is disgusting.

Would you wear it over the one you posted?

It's not my cup of tea, but I think it falls far short of disgusting.

I love the Russell plaid pattern. Luciano Barbera may have an offering in the weight of interest; check with Michael Sestak of LB's NYC office.

LB wrote a short article about Russell plaids. It can be found in "Suits and Ties I Will Never Forget" page of his blog.

I think the coat style is not what I'd prefer but the fabric is sweet - I'd probably opt for the fabric is more of a wheat vs. honey color.

Yeah, that is badass. I even like the elbow patches with it.

one thing to note bill;
the scale of the plaid is rather large
it may not work on certain statures

Probably, but this doesn't mean you shouldn't be "worried" as well. Most likely, I would not wear either (I'm not Scottish so the Russell tartan would be a bit odd)

The Russell Plaid is a classic pattern, it wouldn't suprise me if it hadn't been made in different weights over the years. It's often used for making overcoats out of as well. Crombie usually have one. Good choice.
