I tried and consider the experiment to have failed. That could just be me being picky, I don't know.

I know one guy who simply had Salvatore copy (more or less) the cut of some SR trousers and was pleased with the general fit.

Good question on their protocol. They make a lot of formal clothes, I saw various tailcoats and morning coats in process on my trip but did not thing to ask how they did the pants.

I really feel like I should ask about this.

What is the best way to get in touch with Mina to schedule a NYC visit?

Ambrosi has made a dozen pair of braced trousers with English backs for me without a problem other than the usual "Where are my pants?" issues.

Some neapolitan tailors use it.

I haven't had anything made up with it, but it looks rather nice. Caruso is now offering a ton of Ariston fabric for their MTM products.

Maybe I've just been exposed to the wrong books but most of it always shouts "look at me" or super 250s (silk/cashmere/gold)...far too "eyetalian" for my taste...

That was an overstatement but hopefully you get my point. Look at Smiths and Harrisons as a better alternative.

^ What Nay said. The Ariston stuff is very slickly finished - think Scabal or the glossier VBCs. You would do much better sticking with the classic English mills.

The Ariston linen looks to be decent stuff though.

Ariston, Scabal, Dormeuil, Loro Piana, Zegna, Drapers, etc. You'll be fine with any of these. Harrisons, Minnis etc, all good fabrics, but much like the British, very bland and unexciting.

I do like Fox and Smiths Finameresco and obviously the solaro. Like some Breamish too. But for patterns and "sexy" stuff, can't beat the Italians.
