Any US based customers have an alternative way of paying Mina besides the normal Visa/Mastercard or Cash (Euros). I typically use Amex for everything but Mina doesn't accept it. My Visa and Mastercard tack on a 3-4% surcharge since the transaction is denominated in a foreign currency. Not to sound like a cheap skate, but I hate seeing a separate charge for a couple hundred USD to my CC company. Exchanging cash for euro at local banks seems to be worse, they want a 6% premium over the spot rate.

Capital One was one of the few credit cards not to charge a foreign transaction fee (not sure if this is still the case).

Alternatively, if you are in NYC, this company seems to have very competitive exchange rates.

I didn't realize they had a money transfer service until you brought it up. Do you like the service? What is the spread like?

Just send her a wire transfer. Costs $25 at my bank.

agree on the wire, you can set it up via most bank's websites, you don't even have to go to a branch
post #1088 of 3960
She accepts wires in USD? Wiring money doesn't get around the lousy fx rates most banks give you for such a small amount.

Wire transfers don't solve the problem with the bank's exchange rates. Xe seems to have the most competitive rates, using Amex would be the easiest solution but less people seem to be accepting them these days.

Could you pay her through PP using your AMEX? Did you ask?

This tailor seems to do a really good job.
I'll make sure to visit them next time I'm around smile.gif

Thanks for the pictures !

You're sending her $2400. Paypal will charge you $100. An fx wire is about the same. It is just part of the cost.

Alternatively, couldn't you request a cashier's check from your bank then mail it to her using the tracking services of a global courier? A cashier's check is approx. $10US ...

Whenever I see Mina in the US, I just withdraw a bunch of dollars based on that particular day's forex as per xe.com. No fees, no fuss...

word. And we she exchanges it in Italy, you get better rates than you will get through your bank/credit card company/money exchange place.
