The whole "you need a pair of $500 shoes" is ridiculous in OP's case because he doesn't even know the difference. No offense. A pair of Clark's is probably a good starting point, even though they suck fiercely.

Come to think of it, the toe (albeit not the whole shoe) looks similar to a pair of fossil shoes I sold a few months ago. Model name is "osborne" and they cost me under $100 a few years ago, before I got bit by the shoe bug.
